The district has various soil type, climate, geomorphology accompanied by varieties of population, caste, creed and vegetation etc.  River Kangsabati, Silaboti, Dulong, Subarnarekha, Parang, Keleghai etc. are flowing through this district and enriching cropping system. Major crops grown in the district are paddy, wheat, potato, vegetables, oilseeds, pulses, sugarcane, jute, betel vine, mat-stick etc. and minor crops maize etc. are also grown. In spite of many constraints, the district produces excess quantity of paddy, vegetables and potato crops and is stepping forwarded year after year, on the other hand the district is lagging behind both in area and production of pulses, oil seed crops. A major agricultural problem is its poor marketing infrastructure. Improved storage structures and market complexes within the reach of the poor producers are essential. There is immense potential for development of the livestock sector. Both demand and supply side factors are encouraging.
